Mentoring Toolkit Why Mentoring? DELETE THIS PAGE Offender Mentoring is a fast-growing intervention delivered across sectors in England and Wales. Despite the lack of robust evidence surrounding mentoring and its impact on re-offending, the intervention is recognised as being an effective method of bringing about change. The majority of evidence comes from the direct testimonials and needs of women offenders. Mentoring is a complex intervention that is both individualised and personal. The characteristics of mentoring reflect the needs discussed by many women in the community, in prison and those women resettling back into the community; they ask for support which is based on a one-to-one relationship, trust, respect and support which takes into account their choices.
