The benefits of a mentoring service must come directly from service users, both mentors and mentees. It is important that when building a mentoring service, organisational or predefined benefits do not guide the design of the model. If introducing a gender-specific element, it is crucial to not predict benefits or assume the benefits will be the same for females as they are for males. Once you have started to explore the benefits that mentoring provides service users, organisation or the community, you are able to use this information towards the design, policy and evaluation of your service.
